A leading renewable energy Independent Power Producer with operations across the globe is expanding its UK team. They boast an impressive 25GW pipeline spanning wind, solar, and storage. Their mission is simple — to invest in sustainable energy solutions that deliver tangible benefits for people and the planet. Due to growth, they are looking to grow their in-house ICP function.

The Role:

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join a high-performing team delivering grid connection designs for renewable energy projects. Working in the Independent Connections Provider (ICP) team, you’ll design adoptable networks from 33kV through to 132kV, ensuring compliance with DNO, IDNO, and ENA G81 standards. The position offers technical challenge, client interaction, and the opportunity to contribute directly to the UK’s net zero ambitions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver electrical networks for solar, wind, and BESS projects.
  • Lead the end-to-end design of HV/LV connections up to 132kV, ensuring compliance with DNO/IDNO standards and project-specific requirements.
  • Produce and review detailed technical documentation, including single line diagrams, protection schemes, cable sizing, earthing studies and substation layouts.
  • Coordinate with clients, ICP teams, DNO/IDNO representatives and construction partners to ensure designs are deliverable, safe and aligned with renewable project objectives.
  • Provide technical assurance across multiple schemes, driving quality, value engineering and adherence to relevant regulations, industry standards and approvals processes.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proven design experience within an ICP, DNO, IDNO or consultancy
  • Knowledge of renewable generation and grid connection processes
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and electrical design software
  • Strong understanding of G81 and DNO technical standards

They are looking to hire a Senior Development Manager to their team who will take on a mix of project focused and leadership responsibilities. Strong applicants for this role will have 5 and above years of experience in the development of renewable energy schemes in the UK industry.
