Construction Manager – Utility-Scale Solar

Location: Remote
Travel: Approximately 75% travel (3 out of 4 weeks onsite throughout Illinois)
Compensation: ~$135K base salary + ~20% annual bonus

Position Summary

The company is seeking a Construction Manager to oversee the construction execution of its growing portfolio of utility-scale solar projects. This individual will serve as the owner’s representative onsite, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with schedule, budget, contract requirements, and quality standards.

The Construction Manager will work closely with EPC contractors, internal project teams, engineering, safety, and operations groups to manage project delivery from construction kickoff through completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the onsite owner’s representative overseeing utility-scale solar construction completed by third-party EPC contractors
  • Manage EPC contractor performance related to safety, quality, schedule, budget, and scope execution
  • Ensure projects are constructed in accordance with contract requirements, permits, design documents, and company standards
  • Partner with safety teams to maintain the highest safety standards onsite
  • Conduct daily site walks and monitor construction progress
  • Track project schedules, identify risks, and develop remediation plans when needed
  • Review and verify construction milestones across civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical scopes
  • Ensure EPC contractors follow QA/QC requirements and deliver high-quality assets
  • Review contractor invoices and verify completed work
  • Manage punch lists from mechanical completion through final completion
  • Support project closeout activities, including collection and review of documentation
  • Build strong working relationships with EPC contractors and internal stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across construction processes

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of utility-scale solar construction management experience
  • Strong understanding of solar construction processes, methods, and best practices
  • Experience managing EPC contractors and overseeing construction execution
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred
  • Strong knowledge of construction quality standards, regulations, and safety practices
  • Experience reviewing construction drawings, scopes of work, and project documentation
  • Ability to travel approximately 75% of the time and spend extended periods onsite
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
  • Ability to independently identify project risks and drive solutions
  • Construction Management certification or equivalent field experience preferred
