Help Build the Future of High-Voltage Technology

We are seeking a hands-on, highly motivated High Voltage Engineer to play a critical role in the development, testing, and advancement of next-generation high-voltage systems.

This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who enjoys being close to the hardware. You’ll work at the intersection of engineering, experimentation, and advanced technology, designing, building, testing, troubleshooting, and improving high-voltage systems in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

The ideal candidate is someone who can take ownership of challenging technical problems, move comfortably between simulation and hands-on lab work, and thrive in an environment where requirements evolve and innovation is part of the daily work.

What You'll Do

As a High Voltage Engineer, you will take ownership of high-voltage development and testing activities from concept through execution. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Own high-voltage projects end-to-end, including concept development, design, build, testing, iteration, and documentation.
  • Lead and support the safe operation of a High Voltage Test Cell, including test setup, readiness reviews, execution, and post-test analysis.
  • Design and assemble DC and pulsed high-voltage test circuits, instrumentation setups, and measurement approaches for breakdown and insulation studies.
  • Conduct long-duration tests while maintaining disciplined experimental logs and ensuring strong data quality and repeatability.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot complex high-voltage phenomena, including flashover, arcing, conditioning behavior, contamination effects, partial discharge indications, and test setup artifacts.
  • Develop and evaluate high-voltage subsystems, insulation techniques, and test methods across solids, liquids, gases, and vacuum environments.
  • Use FEM and CAD tools to evaluate electrostatic fields, improve insulation geometries, and support packaging and system design decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with scientists, engineers, vendors, and external partners to advance complex hardware development programs.
  • Write small Python scripts to support experiments, automate tasks, and improve data collection and analysis.
  • Continuously improve lab procedures, test methods, checklists, documentation, labeling, and build standards.
  • Support multiple high-priority development initiatives, including advanced ultra-high-voltage systems and commercial high-voltage hardware.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical field.
  • A hands-on engineering mindset with the ability to take projects from concept to completion with minimal oversight.
  • Fundamental understanding of electrical breakdown mechanisms in solids, liquids, gases, and vacuum.
  • Familiarity with high-voltage testing circuits, laboratory practices, and safe experimental procedures.
  • Working knowledge of COMSOL or equivalent FEM tools for electrostatic or field analysis.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software.
  • Working familiarity with Python for experiment support, automation, or data analysis.
  • Comfort conducting long-duration experiments and maintaining accurate, disciplined experimental records.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • A collaborative, team-first attitude and flexibility to support critical testing windows when needed.

Preferred Qualifications

The following experience is a plus:

  • 1+ years of hands-on experience working with systems above 50 kV DC.
  • Strong proficiency with COMSOL Multiphysics or equivalent tools, particularly for electric field stress analysis and insulation geometry optimization.
  • Experience in experimental hardware environments with rapidly evolving requirements.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage transient analysis.
  • Familiarity with high-speed imaging and diagnostic techniques.
  • Experience supporting complex design-build-test development cycles.

Why This Opportunity?

This is more than a traditional engineering role. You'll have the opportunity to work directly with cutting-edge hardware and play a meaningful role in advancing high-voltage technology.

You'll be joining a growing technical effort where your contributions will have visible impact. From operating sophisticated test systems and solving difficult breakdown challenges to developing new hardware and improving engineering processes, you'll have the opportunity to build, experiment, innovate, and see your work move quickly from concept to reality.

If you're an engineer who enjoys getting your hands on the hardware, solving problems that don't have obvious answers, and helping build technology that pushes the limits of what's possible, we'd love to hear from you.
