A key client is looking for a Hardware/ controls Engineer. They are an innovative battery Manufacturer that produces batteries for automotive and aerospace. Following a successful battery product they will also look to move into Hydrogen Fuel Cell production.

Site: Oxford, Harwell Campus

Salary: £45,000-£55,000

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and integration of powertrain equipment for a hybrid propulsion system for aerospace. The role will include liaising with external suppliers/customers, attending exhibitions/conferences. They must also be comfortable presenting their work in both oral and written form.


*Design and deliver robust and reliable electronic hardware system designs.
*Lead physical testing and prototype evaluation of electronic hardware.
*Collaborate with group to capture design requirements and integration requirements for other systems, including aerothermal and structural integration.
*Support testing and troubleshooting where relevant.
*Propose research and development for future powertrain design.
*Lead procurement process on software and hardware for electrical integration
*Lead integration of hardware and software into prototype powertrain.
*Document and report progress.

Selection criteria


*Hold an undergraduate degree in an engineering field. with previous experience and detailed knowledge in power management for electrical systems
*Experience in the aerospace or automotive sectors
*Good English communication skills. Happy to apply these in presenting work to fellow employees and external partners; including writing reports and presentations.
*Able to plan and manage own time
*Capable of operating independently
*Able to operate under time pressure in a team environment
*Experience with designing and testing high voltage systems (600-1000V)
*Able to select and manage power hardware integration
*Experience in system level architecture design for power management

*Detailed knowledge in one or more of the following areas: power management for battery systems, fuel cell systems, or hybrid powertrain systems.
*Experience operating in a start-up environment
*Power system modelling using simulink or equivalent
*Development of control systems and software in power management
*Experience of assembling and testing fuel cell systems
*Understanding of fuel cell balance of plant requirements
*Knowledge of thermal management requirements of fuel cells
*Experience working with hydrogen
