Its fleet of 76 power plants in operation and one under construction represents nearly 26,000 megawatts of generation capacity. Through wholesale power operations and its retail businesses, serves customers in 22 states, Canada and Mexico.

We are seeking a Regulatory Compliance Manager with NERC O&P focus to join a large independent power producer, this candidate will work with various internal and external parties to ensure compliance with the rules set forth by the various regulatory organizations. This role will report directly to the Director of Regulatory Compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • This role sits under the legal department and within the Regulatory and Compliance team, you will ensure the business stays within compliance of regulations.

  • This person will also work with the Audit department

  • This person will work with controls – developing controls, doing control management

  • Responsible for the effective implementation of the organization's compliance reporting activities.

  • Responsible for facilitating training and ensuring the effective remediation of potential non-compliant situations.

  • Provide monthly reporting on the status of internal controls to Compliance Leadership.

  • Work closely with internal and external Subject Matter Experts to develop and integrate appropriate regulatory controls within systems and/or processes.

  • Develop business requirements, perform gap analysis, and identify strategies for controls and risk mitigation for NERC O&P.

Key Requirements (non-negotiables)

  • NERC O&M experience.

  • 8-10 years of experience in the electric utility industry.

  • Strong knowledge of internal control, compliance, and procedure development.

  • Energy industry experience – generation, power plant, working with a plants (retail, commercial, trading) or corporate compliance department.

  • Risk management/assessment experience.

  • Great interpersonal skills – work with plants, vendors, cross functionally, must have good leadership skills.

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree with an engineering degree is preferred.  Equivalent Military experience will be considered.   

  • Good tenure - it will take a year to understand how the business works.

Salary banding:

$120,000 - $160,000 base, based on experience.  

Location:

  • Must be in Houston, TX. Have a flexible work schedule – home/office – 2 days remote (M/W/Th in office).

  • Travel – up to 25% time – to their plants across the USA + conferences and seminars. Building rapport with plants, controls training, etc.
