Piper Maddox specializes in the Renewable Energy industry, covering the Solar, Energy Storage, Grid Edge, E-Mobility, Wind, & Energy Efficiency markets. We are looking for a Development Associate with a strong entrepreneurial drive to join a rapidly growing Utility-scale Solar and Energy Storage developer based in Austin, Texas. This company is currently developing a 5.5 GW+ pipeline of PV and BESS projects and already has a pipeline of 2 GW+ across multiple markets.

 

Position Title: Development Associate, Utility-scale Solar + BESS

Location: Austin, TX or Atlanta, GA preferred. Around 20% travel.

Purpose: Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Associate will manage the full cycle development process for Utility-scale Solar + BESS projects across multiple markets.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Utility-scale Solar + BESS project development through NTP, focusing on site control and evaluating feasibility of project interconnection, permitting, and revenue contracts.

  • Assist with site acquisition and due diligence.

  • Assess and obtain permitting requirements, including land use and zoning approvals, as well as any necessary state or federal permits.

  • Collaborate with business development and origination teams to identify project development opportunities, taking responsibility for RFP/RFI submittal process.

  • Assist with the negotiation of power purchase agreements, permitting documents, and interconnection agreements.

  • Schedule project milestones for multiple projects at a time and track budgets.

  • Work directly with customers and represent the business, attending county meetings, meetings with landowners, etc.

  • Manage 3rd party consultants.

 

Qualifications:

  • 2 to 3 years of experience in Utility-scale solar and/or BESS project development from greenfield site origination through NTP.

  • Mid-late-stage project development experience.

  • Deep understanding of the utility-scale solar industry, specific regional regulations, and US energy markets (ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SERC, NYISO, SPP, CAISO, etc.).

  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks all at once.
