Piper Maddox has partnered with an innovated American leader in motor controls, battery management, and vehicle instrumentation, based out of New York. The team is in search of a Senior Electronics Engineer for test to take ownership of designing automated test equipment. This role sits on their design team working on HMI, and the ideal candidate is technically independent, with at least 3 years of experience programming in C. 

Mission

  • Formulate and implement global test strategies

  • Specify technical platforms for test equipment, projecting costs and timing.

  • Design, supervise construction of, and commission automated and non-automated production test equipment.

  • Provide technical support for test equipment used in overseas manufacturing plants.

  • Analyze and optimize test methods, coverage, yields, and costs.

  • Provide guidance for product development engineers regarding the testing requirements of modern manufacturing facilities and on preferred test methods

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and formally validate electronics hardware and software for production testing of medium to high volume microprocessor based embedded systems manufactured in overseas plants.

  • Write and implement formal test plans for products to be tested.

  • Analyze test methods and process flows to optimize test coverage and cost, taking into account setup times, reliability, repeatability, handling, fixturing, etc.

  • Supervise the construction of test equipment, using additional resources when necessary.

  • Commission and validate test equipment in production facilities worldwide, travelling internationally when required(typically2-3wks./yr.).

  • Compile and publish proper and comprehensive documentation for all test equipment.

  • Train test operators and technicians.

  • Provide guidance and assistance to product development engineers and take responsibility for all aspects of production testing for those products under design. Attend and contribute to NewProduct Concurrent Engineering team meetings.

  • Remotely monitor test yields, investigate problem areas, and implement solutions.

  • Inform supervisor of all unusual circumstances and perform other duties as may be assigned.

Tasks

  • Design and develop technical strategies and platforms whose base components can be used to test multiple similar product families

  • Design and develop electronics hardware and software for the production testing of products within tight product design schedules for which test equipment is often on the critical path.

  • Continuously seek to improve test processes, product designs and platforms, component specifications, failure possibilities, test coverage, etc.

  • Provide prompt, real time technical support for overseas subsidiaries, and accommodate different languages, cultures and time zones.

  • Co-ordinate with otherTest Engineering groups that are located in other ProductEngineering facilities worldwide, to ensure standard design and test strategies, approaches and platforms are employed

Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent

  • 3 - 5 years' experience in an electronics design role, preferably with experience in the use of PC based I/O and data acquisition systems

  • 3 - 5 years' experience in software development using C, C++, C#. LabView experience desirable

  • Experience in database design and manipulation preferred

  • Sound knowledge of digital and analog circuitry.

  • Sound knowledge of structured software design methods.

  • Good written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong work ethic and leadership skills

  • Capable of working with minimum supervision as part of a multidisciplinary and worldwide team

  • Knowledge of test requirements in a modern “lean” manufacturing environment

  • Knowledge of the latest technologies and strategies for testing of complex electronics in a volume production environment.
