Piper Maddox is supporting a Pan-European developer & operator who are hiring for a Head of Grid Connection. This is the perfect position for someone with no management experience, who is looking to step into their first leadership role!

 

They specialise in wind, solar, & BESS across their portfolio. Germany is their core market, where they currently have 2 GW of projects in development, with over 200 MW in operation. With over 50 team members in Germany, and near 180 across their two primary markets, now is a fantastic time to make your mark in leading the business...

 

  • Position:Head of Grid Connection
  • Location:Berlin - hybrid (must be in office 3 times per week)
  • Salary:Up to €105, 000 base + bonus

 

What you bring:

  • Ideally 3-5 years' experience covering the development of grid connections for largescale renewables (wind/solar/BESS).
  • Knowledge and experience with the initial planning and/or commissioning of HV substations.
  • Knowledge of VDE-AR-N 4110, 4120.
  • Experience using grid technologies and software (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
  • Ability to communicate with German DSOs and TSOs through calls & meetings to align on grid access.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Leadership experience desired, but not essential.
  • FLUENT German required.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will lead a small team of engineers and help guide them in projects.
  • Planning & design of all electrical aspects involved with the grid connection e.g. substations, cables, transformers, preparation of documents for grid applications.
  • Coordinating with DSOs and TSOs, and negotiating with them during the grid connection process.
  • Performing network calculations to assess compliance.

Piper Maddox is supporting a BESS & solar developer, who have recently transitioned to an IPP!They have been present in the UK market for 10+ years, and in Germany for the last few years. They're active in over 4 continents, and their German pipeline is looking to deliver 4 GW of projects by the end of 2028. For this, they are hiring for a Grid Connection Expert who can help move the projects from development to the engineering phase, to get them in the ground! Position:Experte für Netzanschluss / Grid Connection ExpertLocation:Remote but must be based in Germany - Option to work from HQ in BerlinSalary:Up to €110, 000 base + bonus What you bring: Ideally 2-4 years' minimum experience with grid connections for largescale renewables (wind/solar/BESS).Experience with compliance of VDE-AR-N 4110, 4120.Ability to plan & dimension MV substations, ideally HV.Proven experience challenging & liaising with DSOs and TSOs in Germany through calls & meetings to align on grid access.Experience using grid technologies and software (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).Proven relationship building with grid operators & external stakeholders.FLUENT German required. HV Grid Expert (DACH)

We are supporting an IPP who were originally founded in the UK, and are now looking to expand their German team with a HV Engineer! Role: High-Voltage Engineer (m/f/d) / Hochspannungsingenieur (m/f/d)Location: Germany. Offices in Berlin & Munich, can be flexible working/remote. Need to meet in Berlin/Munich once a month.Salary:Up to €120, 000 per annum. The business has 380 MW of grid-connected BESS projects with a further 90 MW under construction in Europe. For their German pipeline, they are aiming to have 500 MW+ in operation by the end of 2028, meaning you will have plenty of projects to get started with!They are looking for a person who will be the main expert for grid connections and high voltage engineering in the German team. You will have support from engineers who specialise in BESS on the UK team, but you will have a full scope of responsibility for grid connections in Germany.Your Responsibilities Be the main point of contact on the German team with securing grid capacity, providing support both before and after application submission.Offer technical liaison and support relating to Distribution System Operator (DSO) interfaces.Support pre-contract readiness and work closely with procurement on delivery-phase activities.Take ownership of defining scope and delivering electrically focused projects.Provide engineering leadership and guidance when the Head of Engineering is unavailable. Candidate Profile Minimum 3-5 years' experience with high voltage engineering, alongside high voltage grid connections in Germany.Electrical Engineering degree or similar.Knowledge of VDE-A-RN 4120 and experience complying with this in Germany.Experience communicating with DSOs/TSOs in meetings & via phone call.Understands the differences with regional DSOs and how to liaise regarding grid access.A person with an electrical & commercial background would be highly valued e.g. stakeholder management.Fluent German & English (C1/C2) is required.Onshore renewables experience is required.
