Civil Engineer (Large-Scale Battery Energy Storage Projects)

The Company

Our client is a rapidly growing clean energy company pioneering large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across Germany and Europe. Their technology plays a crucial role in stabilising the power grid and enabling the energy transition away from fossil fuels. With over 100 employees and ambitious expansion plans, they are scaling up multiple grid-scale storage projects (5–100 MW) using cutting-edge energy management and battery reuse technologies.

The Role

As a Civil Engineer, you’ll take responsibility for all construction-related aspects of large-scale battery storage projects — from planning through to commissioning. You’ll act as the client’s representative on-site, ensuring that construction phases are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

You’ll collaborate closely with project management, electrical engineering, and external design partners to bring technically complex, sustainable infrastructure projects to life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as site lead and client representative on grid-scale battery construction sites (5–100 MW).
  • Manage and oversee all phases of construction up to commissioning.
  • Coordinate all civil works — particularly underground and structural construction.
  • Conduct site audits, monitor contractors, and review & approve invoices (VOB/BGB).
  • Oversee acceptance procedures and ensure full compliance with safety and environmental standards.
  • Support with permit applications and approval processes.
  • Provide technical input for tenders and bid evaluations for construction services.
  • Liaise with planning offices, specialist designers, and public authorities.

Your Profile

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • 2+ years’ experience in construction management or project coordination.
  • Background in energy, infrastructure, or industrial construction preferred.
  • Strong understanding of German construction and contract law (VOB/A, VOB/B, BGB).
  • Familiarity with planning and permitting processes (BauGB, BImSchG, EnWG) advantageous.
  • Interest or basic understanding of electrical engineering or energy storage systems is a plus.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to manage contractors and external stakeholders.
  • Fluent in German, with good written and spoken English skills.

Why Apply?

  • Be part of a company shaping the future of renewable energy infrastructure in Germany.
  • Join a passionate, collaborative team with flat hierarchies and fast decision-making.
  • High degree of autonomy and ownership within projects.
  • Hybrid working setup with flexibility and 30 days of annual leave.
  • A mission-driven environment where your work directly contributes to the energy transition.
