Staff Accountant - Biomass/Biofuels Startup - Oklahoma City, OK

 

Our client is a high-growth cleantech startup developing sustainable solutions that transform biomass into valuable products, advancing the circular economy and decarbonization across multiple industries. As the company enters its next stage of growth, they are looking for a hands-on accounting professional to build scalable financial processes and maintain strong financial controls.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a mission-driven organization at an early stage, working closely with leadership to shape the financial infrastructure of a business with real environmental impact.

 

Responsibilities

  • Own the full accounting cycle
  • Cash management and reporting
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and maintain accurate accounting records and documentation
  • Coordinate and support annual audits, tax filings, and other external reporting requirements
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external accountants, auditors, tax advisors, and financial service providers
  • Develop, implement, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls as the company scales
  • Monitor financial transactions and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, and reporting accuracy
  • Assist leadership with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
  • Support grant reporting, project accounting, or investor reporting as needed
  • Evaluate and implement accounting systems and tools that support growth objectives

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in startups, manufacturing, cleantech, energy, or technology environments
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated experience managing the full accounting cycle, including month-end close, reconciliations, AP/AR, and financial statement preparation
  • Experience supporting audits and working directly with external accountants and auditors
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment with evolving priorities
  • Proven ability to build processes and create structure where formal systems may not yet exist
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Self-starter who can work independently with limited oversight while managing multiple priorities
  • Experience with Ramp and mainstream accounting platforms (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, or similar) preferred
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to partner with both financial and non-financial stakeholders
