Piper Maddox have recently been engaged by an exciting start-up in the Bay Area.

This organization build small modular turbines to solve the ever growing power demand challenges that the Data Center and Distributed Energy Industries are facing. 

Together, we are searching for a tenured Power Electronics professional to lead the charge.

You will have a number of responsibilities in this position but to highlight some of the most important:

  • Own high-voltage power electronics, focused on high-voltage DC rather than grid/AC systems.
  • Specify and integrate the motor/generator and associated power electronics.
  • Evaluate/select suppliers and make key technical decisions around what to buy vs. build.
  • Integrate the motor/generator through wiring, power electronics and controls.
  • Work hands-on with hardware through prototype and testing.
  • Longer term, help bring currently outsourced capabilities in-house.
  • Some software/control systems crossover.

To be a match for this position, you will have a background similar to the below:

  • Minimum of 4 years’ power electronics experience.
  • Strong high-voltage power electronics experience.
  • Hands-on motor/electric machine experience is essential.
  • Experience with GaN and/or SiC MOSFETs / wide-bandgap semiconductors.
  • Must have physically built, wired, integrated or tested hardware themselves.
  • Experience taking hardware through to prototype.
  • Able to operate independently without significant hand-holding.
  • Supplier/component evaluation and selection experience.

This individual will be responsible for providing both strategic direction and daily operational leadership across a portfolio of RNG facilities, while supporting the overall business growth and performance. Using engineered microorganisms to produce Renewable Diesel and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), the company is at an exciting stage of transitioning a proven technology platform into engineering scale-up and commercial deployment. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an experienced process engineer who can help lead the technical development, commissioning, and start-up of a growing pilot operation. The role is based full-time at the company's pilot facility in a rural part of Southern California, roughly two hours east of San Diego. Relocation assistance is available.
