About the Opportunity

Piper Maddox is supporting a leading infrastructure and energy delivery organization seeking a visionary Vice President of Engineering to spearhead its EPC operations. This executive role offers the chance to lead multidisciplinary teams across engineering, asset management, and transmission services, driving large-scale capital projects from concept through commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering and project management functions across the full EPC lifecycle-conceptual design, FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Oversee execution of transmission and distribution infrastructure projects for residential, commercial, and industrial clients, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and quality targets are met.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration between engineering, construction, and business services to ensure seamless project delivery and resource optimization.
  • Develop grid interconnection strategies for large-scale industrial and commercial clients, navigating permitting, regulatory compliance, and system integration.
  • Implement asset management frameworks including reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), condition-based monitoring, and capital investment planning.
  • Lead development of operational and capital budgets, aligning project portfolios with strategic business goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Champion continuous improvement, risk mitigation, and innovation in engineering practices, project controls, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC/FERC standards, environmental regulations, and internal governance protocols.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Deep expertise in EPC project delivery within the utility, energy, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Proven leadership in managing multi-disciplinary engineering and project teams across large capital programs.
  • Strong command of project controls, risk management, and regulatory frameworks governing transmission and distribution systems.
  • Skilled in stakeholder management, contract negotiation, and technical solutioning for complex grid integration challenges.
  • Adept at driving operational excellence, innovation, and digital transformation in engineering and asset management.
  • Comfortable serving as a technical authority and expert witness in regulatory or legal proceedings.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of utility or EPC operations experience, including at least 5 years of people management.
  • Candidates without a degree must have at least 14 years of relevant experience with 5 years in people management.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Proficiency in engineering software, project management platforms, and enterprise asset management systems.
