About the Opportunity:Pipe Maddox is partnered exclusively with a dynamic and fast-scaling renewable energy firm headquartered in Chicago. They are looking for a Director of Strategic Development to help propel their national solar + storage portfolio forward. With a robust pipeline of over 2 gigawatts and a clear path to operationalize hundreds of megawatts in the next 24 months, this company is redefining clean energy deployment across the U.S. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a sharp, entrepreneurial developer who thrives at the intersection of strategy, execution, and cross-functional collaboration. You'll report to the Chief Development Officer and own the full-cycle development process from late-stage project advancement through construction handoff. The Role:You'll be the engine behind taking mid- to late-stage solar and storage projects across the finish line - managing timelines, refining development playbooks, and ensuring every project meets internal performance and readiness standards. Your influence will extend to process refinement, partner diligence, and the tactical advancement of new project opportunities. You Will:Drive solar and energy storage projects to "shovel-ready" status on aggressive timelines.Represent projects at internal investment gate reviews and decision checkpoints.Maintain crystal-clear visibility into the status of all projects using custom dashboards and tracking tools.Cultivate and manage development checklists to ensure rigorous quality and compliance across the portfolio.Oversee execution of energy storage development initiatives and align them with broader strategy.Support strategic growth by evaluating and closing acquisition and joint development opportunities.Champion the development team's best practices, ensuring repeatable, scalable success across the organization. What You Bring:7+ years of experience steering utility-scale or distributed generation solar projects through the development lifecycle.A working knowledge of energy storage integration and its role in enhancing solar asset performance.Proven ability to lead complex projects across land, permitting, interconnection, and commercial structuring milestones.Prior involvement in due diligence and documentation for M&A or project acquisition deals.Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making capabilities.A bias for action, an eye for detail, and a passion for accelerating the clean energy transition.Bachelor's degree in business, energy, engineering, or related discipline (advanced degree a plus).
