This is a hands-on, foundational role for someone who thrives in a startup environment, understands the complexities of the energy grid, and can design secure, scalable, and high-performance systems.Key ResponsibilitiesArchitect and develop the EMS and Battery Management System (BMS) software platform.Integrate with ERCOT and other external grid operators via REST APIs.Design and implement power control systems using Python and C++.Build secure, multi-tenant, islandable SaaS infrastructure for utility-grade applications.Lead system integration efforts across hardware, software, and cloud environments.Develop and manage databases and data pipelines for real-time and historical energy data.Collaborate with UX/UI designers to ensure data is accessible and actionable.Ensure cybersecurity best practices are embedded in all layers of the stack.Support grid dispatch and power plant control software development.Mentor future engineering hires and help scale the technical team.Required Qualifications7+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong background in system architecture.Proficiency in Python and C++, especially for control systems and backend services.Experience with REST API development and integration.Deep understanding of cybersecurity, especially in multi-tenant SaaS and utility environments.Strong knowledge of database design, data center software, and cloud-native architectures.Experience working with or integrating into energy markets (e.g., ERCOT).Familiarity with battery management systems, power dispatch, and grid operations.Must be local to the Katy, TX area and available to work on-site 2-3 days per week.Preferred QualificationsExperience building software for energy utilities or grid-scale storage systems.Background in UI/UX collaboration and data visualization.Prior experience in a startup or early-stage product environment.Knowledge of open-source security frameworks and utility-grade software standards.
