Role Overview
We're looking for a Lead Software Engineer to architect and build our Energy Management System (EMS) from the ground up. This is a hands-on, foundational role for someone who thrives in a startup environment, understands the complexities of the energy grid, and can design secure, scalable, and high-performance systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop the EMS and Battery Management System (BMS) software platform.
  • Integrate with ERCOT and other external grid operators via REST APIs.
  • Design and implement power control systems using Python and C++.
  • Build secure, multi-tenant, islandable SaaS infrastructure for utility-grade applications.
  • Lead system integration efforts across hardware, software, and cloud environments.
  • Develop and manage databases and data pipelines for real-time and historical energy data.
  • Collaborate with UX/UI designers to ensure data is accessible and actionable.
  • Ensure cybersecurity best practices are embedded in all layers of the stack.
  • Support grid dispatch and power plant control software development.
  • Mentor future engineering hires and help scale the technical team.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong background in system architecture.
  • Proficiency in Python and C++, especially for control systems and backend services.
  • Experience with REST API development and integration.
  • Deep understanding of cybersecurity, especially in multi-tenant SaaS and utility environments.
  • Strong knowledge of database design, data center software, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience working with or integrating into energy markets (e.g., ERCOT).
  • Familiarity with battery management systems, power dispatch, and grid operations.
  • Must be local to the Katy, TX area and available to work on-site 2-3 days per week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building software for energy utilities or grid-scale storage systems.
  • Background in UI/UX collaboration and data visualization.
  • Prior experience in a startup or early-stage product environment.
  • Knowledge of open-source security frameworks and utility-grade software standards.
