Role: Legal Counsel

Location: London, England (Hybrid Working)

 

An established and rapidly expanding renewable energy developer is looking to appoint a Senior Legal Counsel to play a key role in supporting its growing UK and European portfolio. With an impressive pipeline spanning solar, battery energy storage (BESS), onshore wind and emerging energy transition technologies, this is an opportunity to join a business at the forefront of the clean energy sector.

 

Reporting into the Head of Legal, you'll work closely with senior stakeholders across development, construction, commercial and investment teams, providing strategic legal advice on a diverse range of high-value projects. This position offers genuine breadth, allowing you to influence projects from early-stage development through to financing, construction and long-term operation.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including EPC, O&M, supply, framework and consultancy contracts.
  • Provide legal support across project development, acquisitions and disposals, joint ventures, project financing and corporate transactions.
  • Advise on power purchase agreements (PPAs), land agreements, grid connection matters and other key commercial arrangements.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to identify and mitigate legal and commercial risks while supporting business objectives.
  • Monitor changes in UK and European legislation affecting the renewable energy sector and provide practical legal guidance.
  • Manage relationships with external legal advisers, ensuring cost-effective and commercially focused legal support.
  • Support the continuous improvement of legal processes, governance and contract management across the business.
  • Mentor and support junior members of the legal team while contributing to the wider growth of the function.

 

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent common law jurisdiction).
  • Typically 5+ years' post-qualification experience gained in-house or within private practice, advising clients in the renewable energy, infrastructure or wider projects sector.
  • Strong experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts, particularly EPC, O&M and supply agreements.
  • Exposure to renewable energy transactions, project development, M&A, project finance and corporate matters.
  • Commercially astute with the ability to deliver pragmatic legal advice in a fast-paced business environment.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with experience partnering with senior business leaders.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously while balancing legal risk with commercial priorities.
  • Previous experience supervising junior lawyers or managing external counsel would be advantageous.
