Location: Liverpool (Hybrid)

Salary: £75,000

Piper Maddox are working with an established and growing renewable energy IPP who are looking to appoint a Senior Protection & Control Engineer to strengthen its in-house design and engineering capability. This role will play a key part in shaping protection strategies for 33kV and 132kV grid-connected assets, supporting projects across solar, BESS, wind, and hybrid schemes.

The role

You’ll act as a technical authority for protection and control design, leading the development of compliant, adoptable protection schemes from early concept through to commissioning. The position offers strong technical influence, close collaboration with DNOs/IDNOs, and the opportunity to mentor and develop junior engineers as the team scales.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and own protection and control concepts for HV export schemes.
  • Ensure compliance with G99, DNO and IDNO adoption requirements.
  • Lead and maintain internal protection design standards and best practice.
  • Provide technical support during installation, testing, and energisation.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external stakeholders.
  • Review, optimise, and approve protection designs for compliance and efficiency.

About you

  • Experience in protection engineering.
  • Strong experience designing end-to-end protection schemes for substations.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK protection philosophies and grid compliance.
  • Experience with solar PV, BESS, wind, or hybrid generation projects.

This company are now looking to expand their team through the hire of an Electrical Design Engineer based in Bristol. As an Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll actively be involved in their Engineering team working towards their portfolio of high voltage projects. You will be responsible for the design of high voltage electrical infrastructure and follow projects from the concept to the construction phases.
