Head of Project Development (PV / BESS)

Location: Northern Germany (Flexible)

 

Our client is an established renewable energy developer with a strong and expanding pipeline of utility-scale solar PV and battery storage (BESS) projects across Germany. As part of their continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Head of Development to take ownership of the development strategy, pipeline delivery, and team leadership across their PV and storage portfolio.

 

This is a senior leadership role for an experienced development professional who combines strategic thinking with a hands-on approach to project delivery. You will play a central role in shaping and scaling the company’s development activities, ensuring projects progress efficiently from greenfield stage through to ready-to-build.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the full development lifecycle across utility-scale PV and BESS projects from origination through to ready-to-build status
  • Define and execute development strategy to grow and optimise the German project pipeline
  • Identify and prioritise target regions for PV and storage development
  • Manage permitting processes, including planning approvals, environmental requirements, and regulatory frameworks
  • Coordinate grid connection applications and liaise with DSOs/TSOs
  • Build, lead, and develop a team of project developers
  • Establish development KPIs and ensure strong pipeline conversion and project progression
  • Support commercial discussions with investors, partners, and internal stakeholders
  • Work closely with senior leadership to support long-term growth strategy and market expansion

 

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience developing utility-scale PV and/or BESS projects in Germany
  • Strong understanding of German planning, permitting, and grid connection processes
  • Track record of delivering projects from greenfield through to RTB
  • Leadership experience, either managing teams or regional development responsibility
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with landowners, municipalities, and authorities
  • Commercial mindset with ability to assess project risk, value, and pipeline quality
  • Fluent German and professional English
