IT Infrastructure Lead - Berlin

About the Company

Our client is a fast-growing renewable energy business dedicated to modernising and optimising onshore wind assets to increase clean energy generation and support the transition to a low-carbon future. Through technical innovation, operational excellence, and digital transformation, the company is helping to unlock greater value from renewable energy infrastructure while playing a key role in Europe's energy transition.

As the business continues to grow, technology is central to its success. This role offers the opportunity to build and shape the IT infrastructure that underpins critical business operations and future expansion.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced IT Infrastructure Lead to design, build, and lead a modern hybrid IT environment. This is a rare opportunity to establish scalable infrastructure from the ground up rather than inherit a mature environment.

You'll take ownership of the organisation's core infrastructure, ensuring it is secure, resilient, and fit for a rapidly growing business. Working closely with senior IT leadership, you will define infrastructure standards, deliver strategic projects, and create an IT environment capable of supporting continued growth.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building, improving, and taking ownership of enterprise infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and continuously evolve the organisation's on-premises and cloud infrastructure, including networking, servers, virtualization, Microsoft 365, and Azure.
  • Ensure the availability, performance, security, and scalability of the IT infrastructure.
  • Lead and coordinate internal and external IT support, driving service improvements and operational excellence.
  • Deliver infrastructure projects including greenfield deployments, upgrades, migrations, and resilience improvements.
  • Partner with senior IT leadership on security initiatives, including backup and disaster recovery, identity and access management, and secure infrastructure configuration.
  • Support compliance with recognised security frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIS2, and other relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Create and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, runbooks, and knowledge base articles.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members where appropriate.

About You

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Several years' experience in IT infrastructure, such as a System Administrator, Infrastructure Engineer, Senior Infrastructure Engineer, or similar role.
  • Proven experience designing and building enterprise IT infrastructure from the ground up or leading major infrastructure transformation programmes.
  • A genuine passion for creating scalable, secure, and resilient infrastructure, with the ability to balance strategic planning and hands-on technical delivery.
  • Strong technical expertise across several of the following:
  • Windows Server and Active Directory
  • Enterprise networking (Cisco Meraki experience is advantageous)
  • Virtualization platforms (such as Proxmox)
  • Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365
  • Backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions
  • Experience managing third-party vendors and Managed Service Providers (MSPs).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical teams, business functions, and senior leadership.
  • Fluent German (spoken and written) and good English language skills.

Desirable

  • Experience working within ISO 27001, NIS2, or other regulated environments.
  • Experience improving IT service delivery through automation and self-service initiatives.
  • Relevant certifications such as Microsoft, Azure (AZ-900 or above), or ITIL Foundation.

What's on Offer

  • A unique opportunity to build and shape the IT infrastructure of a rapidly growing renewable energy business.
  • High levels of autonomy, ownership, and influence from day one.
  • A collaborative, agile team with direct access to senior leadership.
  • The chance to work on meaningful projects that support the growth of renewable energy and the transition to a more sustainable future.
  • A role where your technical expertise will have a lasting impact on both the business and its long-term technology strategy.
