Piper Maddox has partnered with a developer who specialise in utility-scale solar & BESS projects.

With 500 MW+ of BESS & 2000 MW+ of PV in development, they are looking to add a Grid Engineer to their technical team, who can assist with DSO negotiation and applications for grid access.

You’ll be joining a team of 20, with 3 on the technical side. If you’re more of a junior candidate, then don’t shy away from applying, as there will be a more Senior Grid Specialist to support you!

  • Position: Grid Connection Engineer for Solar & BESS
  • Location: Office locations around North East Germany, open to remote working.
  • Base salary: Up to €85, 000. For more senior candidates, up to €100, 000.

What you bring:

  • 2 years' minimum experience with grid connections for largescale renewables (wind/solar/BESS).
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with compliance according to VDE-AR-N 4110, 4120.
  • Proven experience making grid applications in Germany.
  • Experience using grid technologies and software (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
  • FLUENT German required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning & initial design of grid connections (MV and HV) including all necessary grid infrastructure e.g. cable routes, transformers, substations etc…
  • Assessing locations for grid connections and compatibility of them.
  • Determining finance & investment needed for the completed grid connection.
  • Processing & submitting grid applications to network operators.
  • Coordinating with DSOs to negotiate with them during this process.

BESS Design Manager

Piper Maddox is partnering with one of the UK’s leading and fastest-growing developers, owners, and operators of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage projects, with an established footprint across solar and onshore wind. Due to continued growth, they are looking to hire a Design Manager to strengthen their construction team.As Design Manager, you’ll report into the Head of Construction and take ownership of reviewing and assuring the quality and completeness of design and QC documentation across a portfolio of BESS projects across Europe. You’ll define the right design review strategy for each project and lead the review of design submissions from contractors and key stakeholders, including DNOs and TSOs.Location: YorkshireSalary: Up to £80,000Key Responsibilities- Lead and implement a tailored design review strategy for each project, reviewing submissions from contractors and external stakeholders (DNOs, TSOs, etc.).- Ensure designs meet project requirements and comply with relevant standards across the UK, Poland, and Germany.- Proactively identify and manage key design and interface risks, setting clear documentation requirements and submission timelines.- Manage technical interfaces between multiple work packages to ensure reviews are completed without impacting programme.- Coordinate with external Owner’s Engineers and specialist consultants for additional design reviews or technical support.- Support the development of RFPs and technical specifications, ideally including high-voltage equipment such as transformers up to 400kV.Skills & Experience- Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.- Experience delivering large-scale power or electrical infrastructure projects; - HV grid connections and/or BESS experience highly desirable.- Strong knowledge of relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations.- Ability to engage across multiple engineering disciplines, including civil, electrical, and controls.- Previous experience undertaking design reviews, ideally in an Owner’s Engineer or client-side role.
