Licensing Engineer – Nuclear / Advanced Reactor Programs

 

Position Overview

We are seeking a Licensing Engineer to support the development and execution of regulatory licensing strategies for advanced energy projects. This role involves preparing licensing documentation, coordinating with engineering teams, and interfacing with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with applicable requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of nuclear regulatory frameworks, experience developing licensing deliverables, and the ability to collaborate across technical disciplines.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain licensing documents (e.g., Topical Reports, PSAR, FSAR) in accordance with applicable regulatory guidance and project schedules
  • Collaborate with system engineers to ensure design documentation supports and substantiates licensing content
  • Interface with project stakeholders to ensure licensing deliverables meet customer requirements and regulatory expectations
  • Support regulatory interactions, including:
    • Pre-application engagements
    • Reviews of submitted licensing documents
    • Regulatory audits
  • Participate in public meetings with regulatory authorities and stay current on industry developments related to advanced reactors and emerging technologies
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of internal policies, procedures, and standard work processes
  • Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency and consistency in licensing workflows

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline (e.g., Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Physics, Mathematics)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in licensing and/or engineering, preferably within the nuclear or energy sectors

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of regulatory guidance such as NUREG-1537, NUREG-0800, and Regulatory Guides 1.70 and 1.206
  • Familiarity with licensing frameworks and industry initiatives for advanced reactor technologies
  • Understanding of industry codes and standards (e.g., ACI, ASME, IEEE, ANS/ANSI) used to demonstrate regulatory compliance
  • Knowledge of licensing documentation requirements, including public disclosure, information withholding, and document control processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical and regulatory information
  • Proven ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams and contribute to a collaborative work environment

 

Location: Chicago, IL (5 days a week in office)

Salary: $100,000 - $140,000

The organisation develops large‑scale stationary battery storage projects as well as private grid‑connection infrastructure for renewable energy assets in France. The company manages the full value chain, from early development and grid‑connection design to construction, commissioning, and long‑term operation, with the ambition to accelerate the deployment of clean energy. A major fundraising round in 2025 with a globally recognised investor now supports the next phase of growth and structuring. As several projects enter construction and others approach the contractual negotiation stage, the company is creating a new position: Energy Markets Engineer (Storage). Reporting to the Head of Energy Markets, the role will act as a key interface with aggregators during both construction and operational phases, while also contributing to contract negotiations for upcoming projects.The successful candidate will join a dynamic, low‑inertia environment composed of experts across all verticals.
