An established European renewable energy IPP, backed by long-term investment capital, is seeking a Head of Development to lead and scale its German development platform.

 

This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for managing a growing pipeline of utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage projects, whilst supporting the continued expansion of the business across Germany.

 

Working closely with the Managing Director Germany and the wider European leadership team, you will lead development activities, manage key co-development partnerships, and oversee projects from origination through to ready-to-build and financial close.

 

The business currently has approximately 1GW of development pipeline across Germany, with projects approaching energisation and a significant pipeline of battery storage opportunities under development.

 

Key Focus Areas

  • Lead and develop the German development function, providing both strategic and day-to-day leadership.
  • Manage and mentor a team of project developers whilst supporting future growth of the organisation.
  • Take ownership of the German project pipeline across solar PV and battery energy storage projects.
  • Drive projects through permitting, planning, land acquisition, grid connection, and development milestones.
  • Manage and strengthen relationships with co-development partners across Germany.
  • Work closely with engineering, grid, construction, finance, and commercial teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Identify and assess new development opportunities, particularly within the rapidly evolving German BESS market.
  • Evaluate opportunities arising from grid reforms, market changes, and emerging flexibility requirements.
  • Support project acquisitions, partnerships, and strategic growth initiatives where appropriate.
  • Monitor development risks and implement mitigation strategies to maximise project value and certainty of delivery.

 

Background

  • Significant experience in renewable energy project development within Germany.
  • Proven track record of delivering utility-scale renewable energy projects through key development milestones and ideally to financial close.
  • Strong understanding of solar PV project development and permitting processes.
  • Experience within battery energy storage systems (BESS) development is highly desirable.
  • Commercial understanding of project economics, grid strategy, and revenue opportunities.
  • Experience managing external development partners, consultants, and stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to mobilise both internal and external teams
  • Individuals who can combine strategic leadership with a hands-on approach to project delivery
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
  • Fluent German and English.
