Piper Maddox is partnering with a leading investor and asset owner within the UK BESS market. With a portfolio exceeding 1.7GW and a well-established reputation for delivering high-quality energy infrastructure, the business continues to play a significant role in accelerating the UK's energy transition.

The organisation provides specialist investment solutions across renewable energy, combining financial expertise with technical excellence to develop, construct and manage large-scale battery storage assets. As the portfolio continues to expand, they are seeking a Grid Connections Director to lead the strategic direction of grid connections across the business.

This is a highly influential position, acting as the organisation's subject matter expert for transmission-level grid connections. You'll work across the full project lifecycle, with a particular focus on project delivery, construction and energisation, ensuring connection strategies are commercially robust and technically sound.

Working closely with senior leadership, you'll shape connection strategy across the portfolio while maintaining key relationships with NESO, National Grid and Transmission Owners. You'll also collaborate with experienced internal engineering, development and delivery teams, giving you the support and resources needed to deliver major infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the grid connection strategy for utility-scale BESS projects across the UK.
  • Act as the primary point of contact with NESO, National Grid, Transmission Owners and other network stakeholders, negotiating connection offers and driving projects through key milestones.
  • Provide strategic guidance across the full project lifecycle, from development through construction and energisation.
  • Oversee transmission-level grid connections up to 400kV.
  • Identify, procure and manage external partners, including ICPs, HV contractors and equipment suppliers.
  • Support the delivery of substations, grid infrastructure and Owner's Engineer activities.
  • Represent the business at key industry events and maintain awareness of regulatory and market developments.

About You

We're looking for a senior grid or electrical engineering professional with a strong background in the delivery of transmission-connected renewable energy projects.

You'll ideally have:

  • Extensive experience delivering grid connections for utility-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Strong knowledge of transmission connections, construction and energisation.
  • Experience working with NESO, National Grid and Transmission Owners.
  • The ability to influence stakeholders and lead strategic decision-making at a senior level.
  • Experience working on HV projects up to 400kV.
  • The ability to commute to the London office on a hybrid basis.

This role requires a commercially focused leader with strong technical expertise who can successfully manage the full project lifecycle from initial proposal through execution and project closeout while driving financial performance, client satisfaction, and successful project delivery.
