Software Engineer

My client is looking for a technically strong Software Engineer to join their team and work across the full lifecycle of new engineering and manufacturing projects. The role will involve taking projects from initial assignment and software development through testing, implementation, production ramp-up and final handover.

You will work closely with internal engineering teams, production, suppliers, customers and other project stakeholders to ensure software and technical requirements are delivered to a high standard. The position combines hands-on software development and testing with technical project coordination, troubleshooting and production support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the introduction and implementation of new projects, from initial assignment through software development, testing, production ramp-up and final handover.

  • Design, develop and test software solutions in line with customer and project requirements.

  • Apply computer science and mathematical principles to software design, development and problem solving.

  • Carry out software testing, including manual QA, troubleshooting and debugging of identified issues.

  • Analyse software and system logs to identify faults, investigate root causes and implement effective solutions.

  • Provide technical support to customers and internal teams throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Work with communication and bus protocols such as CAN, Modbus, Serial Bus, MQTT and other relevant technologies.

  • Knowledge of OCPP is advantageous, particularly where software interfaces with connected hardware or charging-related systems.

  • Read, interpret and apply relevant technical standards and requirements in practical engineering and production environments.

  • Prepare technical, project and production documentation in accordance with company procedures and project requirements.

  • Monitor project progress, schedules and quality throughout project implementation and production ramp-up.

  • Coordinate engineering and production activities with internal departments, suppliers and customers during the launch of new projects.

  • Support the technical preparation of production, including the implementation and execution of production and quality procedures.

  • Manage and resolve non-conforming materials, production-related issues and customer complaints, identifying and implementing preventative measures to avoid recurrence.

  • Maintain and update engineering, production, quality and technical records within internal systems and databases.

  • Support engineering changes and product development activities in line with customer requirements, technical standards, production capabilities and project objectives.

  • Work closely with project stakeholders and customers to ensure agreed delivery, quality and technical objectives are achieved.

  • Participate in project and engineering meetings and contribute to continuous improvement across assigned projects.

  • Provide technical support to internal and external partners throughout the supplier–customer chain.

Experience & Skills

  • Experience working as a Software Engineer, Embedded Software Engineer, Systems Engineer or similar technical position.

  • Strong experience with software development, testing and troubleshooting.

  • Practical experience with manual QA/software testing and debugging.

  • Ability to read and analyse technical logs to diagnose software and system issues.

  • Experience working with CAN, Modbus, Serial Bus, MQTT or similar communication protocols.

  • Knowledge of OCPP is a strong advantage.

  • Ability to understand technical standards and translate their requirements into practical engineering solutions.

  • Experience working within a hardware, manufacturing, industrial automation, automotive, energy or other technically complex environment would be beneficial.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on identifying the root cause of technical issues rather than simply addressing symptoms.

  • Comfortable working across software, engineering and production teams.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.

  • Structured and detail-oriented approach to project delivery and technical documentation.
